About The Principal Of The Firm

The Principal of the firm Mr Damien O'Dea has studies in Law, Property and Behavioral science. Mr O'Dea also has extensive experience in high end commercial litigation and in the Family Law jurisdiction.

Our aim is to add value with service to our clients. We care about our clients and aim to achieve a good outcome for a fair price.

Damien O'Dea

Damien graduated from Flinders University with a Bachelor of Laws/Legal Practice in 2007 and was admitted as a practitioner of the Supreme Court of South Australia. He is also admitted as a practitioner of the High Court of Australia.

Damien has a deep seated passion for Property Law and would regard himself as very knowledgeable in most aspects of Property Law. He also has a lived experience in Family Law and can offer a personalised service in this area.

Damien wants to impress upon his clients that he can service any area of law and will strive for the best outcomes for them.

Outside of a busy office Damien is passionate about keeping fit and healthy and loves to go on Mountain Bike Adventures both locally interstate and overseas. He also has a lifelong passion for Radio Control Off Road Car Racing, he has competed both nationally and internationally at two world title events in 2019 and 2023.

About Ian Tan ~ Solicitor

Area(s) of Interest: Criminal Law, Dispute Litigation, and Cybercrime.

Ian graduated from Flinders University in September 2023 with a Bachelor of Laws and Legal Practice (Hons). Shortly after, he was then admitted as a practitioner to both the Supreme Court of South Australia in November 2023, and later to the High Court of Australia in June 2024.

Ian’s passion lies therein the intricacies of Criminal Law, often going above and beyond in not only contributing towards the administration of justice, but also in ensuring justice for clients from all different backgrounds. His ingrained knowledge of the criminal process and keen eye for missing details enables him to resolve his cases with only the best possible outcomes for clients, ensuring that clients always receive fair treatment according to the law.

Ian’s vigorous advocacy, unwavering commitment to justice, and strategic approaches to high-stakes cases also makes him an invaluable asset to the firm. Whether it is defending clients in court, negotiating settlements, or managing alternative forms of dispute resolutions, he approaches each case with an unwavering sense of dedication.

Outside of the courtroom, Ian always enjoys an Iced Latte regardless of the weather and exploring new methodologies to employ in his next case. Coupled with his unwavering dedication to equal justice for all, Ian is recognized as a robust advocate within the legal community.

About Beau Searle ~ Law Student

Beau is currently studying a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in philosophy, and a Bachelor of Laws/Legal Practice at Flinders University.

He has worked with O’Dea Lawyers since December of 2023 as a work experience student and is joining the team full time following his admission in July of 2025. With experience of various facets of law throughout the last year, Beau has an interest in family, employment, criminal and property law.
